A Transition Zone

Pinyon pine (Pinus monophylla) and Mojave yucca (Yucca schidigera)

Looking around the Hidden Valley you can see a number of other plants species, such as the Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia), blackbrush (Coleogyne ramosissima), and many species of cacti. Because of the special climate and rock features found here, it is a transition zone between the Joshua tree forest and the pinyon-juniper woodlands. In general, the oaks and pines stick to the rockier areas, while Joshua trees and associated plants grow in the valley's center.
